FLORENCE SIMCONE MYERS DAVIS

On Aug. 14, 1884, near the west boundary of Montgomery County, a babe was born to Charles William and Elizabeth MYERS. The child was christened Florence Simcone. While yet a child her parents moved to the home where they now reside in Fountain Co. Here she spent her school days and grew to womanhood, with a large circle of friends. She was of a tender and loving disposition, with few or no enemies and a more noble and pure character has never been known. She was so tender hearted and kind that she would often weep if she had offended someone. While yet in school she became acquainted with William L. Davis in 1900, he living on the farm at that time. Two years later he went away to take advanced studies in music. Last June, 1906, he came home from Iowa and claimed his beautiful bride Aug 8. Shortly after their marriage they went to Chicago to make their home at that place. They had a happy and bright future before them. On Sat. Jan 26, at the breakfast table she said she was not feeling well and ate very little. She took her bed the same day and the doctor was summoned on Monday. Her condition was not critical at that time, but gradually grew into a severe case of pneumonia. On Friday morning, she stated she had come into a new life and on Sunday afternoon at 2:10 o'clock God claimed her as his own. "So live, that when thy summons comes to join the innumerable caravan which moves to that mysterious realm, where each shall take his chamber in the silent halls of death, thou go not, like the quarry slave, at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust approach thy grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams." She departed this life Feb 3, 1907, aged 22 years, 5 months and 19 days. She leaves a bereaved husband, father, mother, sister and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss. The remains were brought to Crawfordsville on Monday, then taken to the home of her parents near Wallace. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church on Tues. at 12 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Whitson officiating. The alumni of Jackson Twp, of which she was a member had charge of the body. Interment in the adjoining Cemetery. - kbz
